Communication is a Virus: Viral Marketing Campaigns

Prank videos and advertising targeting live members of the public have been successful to companies wanting to get attention on their videos. The reasons these ads in particular work so well is because of peoples live reactions which makes others want to share it and a simple link means that it can be posted on social networks/blogs/emails.

Above is an advert for the film Carrie where a scene has been setup inside a coffee shop around unsuspecting members of the public. This prank works well because of the detail behind it and situation it is in. The cameras film what peoples genuine reactions would be like (most of them funny) and is why it is so engaging. It is interesting that there is no mention of the film until the very end and the title is 'Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise' most likely because more people would be interested in a live prank than another typical horror film trailer making the audience for this advert broad.
